Rahul Gandhi's late and belated action

Published on:

This refers to the editorial, “Fake messiah of the farmers on warpath (May 11) by Balbir Punj. Ever since Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi returned from his nearly two-month long vacation, he has become the talk of the town, because of his speeches in Parliament and his visit to the beleaguered farmers in some States. But there is nothing extraordinary about these developments. He is a people's representative and is supposed to take up their cause.

But, when you are in public life, you cannot switch off and on at your own will. Farmers had committed suicide in various parts of the country when the Congress was ruling the country. So, Mr Gandhi's sudden empathy with farmers is just a photo-up to remain in the limelight. His leadership has been challenged by people in his own party, who have far greater credentials than he does. Mr Gandhi has nothing but his surname to show.
