This refers to the article, “This isn't the occasion to play petty politics” (June 28) by Kalyani Shankar.
The author has done well to deprecate the recent shameful incidents wherein political parties and their leaders, instead of sincerely joining in rescue and relief efforts, have been busy making political capital of the devastating tragedy in Uttarakhand.
But regardless of all the heart-burning displayed by the Congress in its sarcastic depiction of Mr Narendra Modi as Rambo, one fact that irrefutably stands out is that the Gujarat Chief Minister was the first to reach the disaster site and offer help, even as the Governments at the State and the Centre were prevaricating.
Interestingly, the convoy of relief vehicles flamboyantly flagged off by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi amidst much fanfare, days after the tragedy, is yet to reach the area. Reportedly, the relief convoy is stuck at Rishikesh. So much for positive governance!
