Quell defiant voices in Kashmir now

Published on:

This refers to the article, “Omar is only playing with fire” (April 10) by Hari Om. One agrees with the writer that the real culprit here is the Congress which has never considered India to be one national unit. It is this attitude which allows defiant Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to abuse his constitutional authority. Consequently, the situation in Kashmir today has reached a point wherein it is increasingly difficult for New Delhi to maintain its control over that region.

Unfortunately, New Delhi has also pursued a skewed Kashmir policy ignoring the importance of ladakh and Jammu. This dominance of one region over the other two has made the Kashmiri leadership both arrogant and dictatorial, and bold enough to challenge the State's accession to the Indian Union. The problem is that the Government easily succumbs to such pressure tactics, often turning an indulgent, if not a blind, eye to such shenanigans. If no corrective steps are taken, it will be difficult to prevent the secession of Jammu & Kashmir from India.
