Sir — This refers to the article, “When lawmakers and lawbreakers are one” (August 12) by Joginder Singh. The BJP has been claiming that it is a party with a difference. One fervently appeals to party president Rajnath Singh to put these words into practice.
He can start by declaring that the BJP will not receive any donations in cash, that all donations will be accepted only through cheques, and that candidates with a criminal record will be denied tickets in the forthcoming parliamentary and the Assembly elections. Mr Singh should make a solemn promise that the BJP will not compromise on its core philosophy and that it will select candidates not merely on account of their ‘winnability’ factor, but also because of their morally clean and upright image. If the BJP president can make such a declaration and, more importantly, implement it, the party will benefit enormously because the voters will endorse it.
