Sir — This refers to the report that Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has accused the BJP of having ditched the countrymen by not keeping its promises. Made during a public meeting as a part of the by-poll campaigning for his grand-nephew Tej Pratap Singh Yadav in the party’s stronghold Mainpuri, Mr Yadav’s allegation that the achche din promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi are nowhere in sight, carries weight.
Contrary to this, the first initiative the Samajwadi Party took after taking over in Uttar Pradesh was to leave no stone unturned in delivering on its poll promises — distribution of thousands of computers and laptops to high school and intermediate-pass students respectively; the launch of hundreds of more ambulances for rural areas; the Kanya Vidya Dhan; and, the Hamari Beti Uska Kal schemes.
