Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Growth with change” (May 28). Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government has done much in the last four years. Of all, socio-political schemes have had a considerable impact on the middle class and the poorer sections.
Every party reels under anti-incumbency while nearing towards an election but it’s a different case when it comes to the Modi-led BJP. Normal rules of anti-incumbency doesn’t apply to the Prime Minister. His intent and integrity remains intact. Schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana among others have got immense response from the people.
Allegations that the Modi Government is a ‘Suit-boot ki Sarkar’ have fallen flat as Modi’s promises have remained sacrosanct and the narrative of pro-poor and pro-farmer has been lived upon. Although jobless growth and demonetisation have dented India’s economy, the recent GDP figures have shown that the economy is now back on track and foreign investments have ascended. Meanwhile, there is a palpable discontent among the people for the BJP but that succeeds everytime as it is able to stitch together a multi-class and a multi-cast alliance.
The report card of the Modi Government after four years lies above distinction and it is going to get tough for the Opposition to challenge the Modi juggernaut amidst a vacuum of a viable alternative.
