This refers to the article, “A tightrope walk in West Asia” (October 15) by Mayuri Mukherjee. The author has flawlessly underlined the important points about President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to Palestine and Israel, the first by an Indian head.
While terror boiled over the streets during Mr Mukherjee’s visit, a long-awaited visit unfolded, hardly a suitable backdrop to such an event. One can just hope that positive results will materialise on Indian soil from this visit, as tit will directly benefit Indian lives.
Obviously, the ‘policy pronouncements in public’ were certainly uncalled for. Nevertheless, they are dwarfed by the momentous occasion of an actual state visit.
