Mr Pranab Mukherjee should be complimented for his modesty in the completion of two years as President of India. He made just three foreign-trips in the first two years of his five-year term for the post, unlike his predecessor Pratibha Patil, who grossly misused the highest post of the nation by making her grandchildren, relations and friends enjoy luxurious foreign-junkets at a heavy cost to the national exchequer.
The President has fulfilled the requirements of his diplomatic relations by being an efficient host to as many as 75 foreign dignitaries who visited the Rashtrapati Bhavan in these past two years. This he has done without spending huge sums of public money.
Mr Mukherjee’s other achievement has been bringing the Rashtrapati Bhavan closer to the general public by opening the palatial building for sight-seeing. His dedicating the Rashtrapati Bhavan museum to the general public is yet another plus point.
