This refers to the editorial, “Calling Pakistan’s bluff” (October 1). Islamabad’s response, a blanket denial that India did not conduct any surgical strike, is both predictable (one does not expect them to admit it, anyway) and, in the Pakistani context, smart. The Pakistan Army and political leaders have made chest-thumping pronouncements without taking military action.
Now there has been the usual appeal by Pakistan to the international community to intervene, as well as some predictable bromides from world powers about the need for New Delhi and Islamabad to exercise restraint. These can be met with equally formulaic responses from New Delhi.
