This refers to the editorial, “Serenading the NRI” (January 11). Speaking at the 14th convention of Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recognised the Indian diaspora as a valuable partner in India's journey of development and expressed his desire to turn “brain drain into brain gain”. He not not only assured them of maximum facilitation and least inconvenience but also tried to attract buyers for India's growth story by redefining Foreign Direct Investment as “first develop India”.

By reiterating the importance of image of the country in the eyes of the world, the Prime Minister has placed the nation above all partisan interests. He also emphasised his Government’s clarity in policy, intent and decisions while announcing the Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojana to provide training and certify Indians seeking overseas employment. One hopes the Prime Minister succeeds in leveraging India's soft power and make it a vishwa guru.
