Powerless state

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Big mockery of justice” (April 12). It is unfortunate that almost a year after the arrest was sensationally disclosed, the case of accused Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav has taken a darker turn. His death sentence by a Pakistani court has left India dumbstruck, and with good reason. It is disappointing that Pakistan has given its military courts so much power that even the Supreme Court of that country cannot intervene to save Jadhav’s life. A tit-for-tat attitude has already begun with India rescinding its plans to release Pakistani prisoners. Good sense must prevail and Pakistan’s civilian leadership must draw the line on its Army’s overreach.
