Sir— This refers to the Supreme Court's ruling on Friday putting curbs on water, milk, sugar, honey and ghee offered by devotees at the famed Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. It is a bold step to preserve the Shivalinga following reports that it is shrinking.Henceforth, only water purified using RO technology will be allowed for the Jalabhishek of the Shivalinga at the temple.
The action of the apex court, in collaboration with the temple management, will certainly be successful in slowing down or retarding the process of decay of the outer surface of the Shivalinga and is very welcome. Simultaneously, religious leaders should educate devotees that lord Shiva is above all.
