Sir — This refers to the article, “Impeachment: The Chairman was right” (May 8) by A Surya Prakash. It seems the Congress is unable to digest the fact that Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has rejected their motion to impeach the Chief Justice of India, like they have not been able to comprehend the massive defeat they suffered in the 2014 general election till date.
Even within the Congress, there were differences of opinion, but many sycophant leaders had to bow down in front of the Gandhis. The Opposition needed 50 per cent votes in their favour to let their impeachment notice reach the President of India. But, perhaps, it is crystal clear that they do not have a majority.
The Rajya Sabha Chairman rightfully rejected their request. All of the charges levied against Chief Justice of India Deepak Misra were baseless to say the least. What a shame that the Opposition has tried to take political revenge through this.
Yes, judicial reforms are the need of the hour, but that does not mean that a political party should go to the extent to impeach the CJI and make a mockery of our judiciary which is always held with utmost regard by the citizen of this country.
