Sir — This refers to the article, “Basirhat riot not a freak disturbance” (July 9) by Swapan Dasgupta. Even if West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is accepted to be soft towards minorities for vote-bank considerations there is no justification for spreading ‘hate’ crimes aimed at the Hindu population.
It is time our politicians change themselves to practice principled politics to allow people to turn the tide themselves through self-realisation. More shocking is intellectuals and television channels taking sides towards the objective of certain gains. Wrestling for power has to be restrained.
