Political opportunism

Published on:

This refers to the article, “Pandora’s open box of caste-based reservation” (September 7) by Joginder Singh. A section of our society has been demanding reservation in the name of caste, creed and religion. This is nothing but political opportunism.

Reservation was introduced in India to provide empowerment to the communities that are socially and economically weak. However, a large number of the backward castes do not enjoy the facilities that is granted by the Government and the Constitution. They are facing issues like language barrier, communication gap, misuse of their rights and political bankruptcy.

On the other hand, the educated and the wealthy — the creamy layer of our society — enjoy the privilege of reservation. This must come to an end.
