Political anarchy

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Game of Thrones is back” (September 14). The riveting political drama in Tamil Nadu has produced one more dramatic act with the two warring factions in the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) coming together to remove VK Sasikala as the party chief. All these manoeuvres are being undertaken by (mostly) men who never aspired to any leadership position and were content to be a doormat for their leader. That these men gathered courage to defy someone who claims to have had a special relationship with J Jayalalithaa is a significant moment in Tamil Nadu politics.
Governor Vidyasagar Rao must now put an end to the charade that has become Tamil Nadu politics. All he needs to do is to summon the Tamil Nadu Assembly and allow the Opposition to conduct a vote of confidence. Political instability serves only ill. The only gainer in this  feud is the Bharatiya Janata Party, who finds the AIADMK factions pliant, thanks to the present political uncertainty and the show of power of the Centre to settle that uncertainty.
