This refers to the report, “Tejpal's plea to transfer case to CBI an escape route: BJP” (November 27). Apart from the very legitimate suspicion it has evoked in the Bharatiya Janata Party that Mr Tarun Tejpal is trying to evade retribution for his criminal act, it makes one wonder if the perception about the Central Bureau of Investigation has been reduced to its role of a policeman to look into an allegation of sexual misconduct by an employee against her employer.
Regardless of the high-profile nature of the person and the organisation involved, is this the kind of investigation that should seriously engage the attention of the country's premier investigative agency, even now caught in a crossfire between the Government and the Supreme Court in cases of a magnitude of the coal block allocation and the 2G Spectrum scamsIJ Such puerile calls only add fuel to the fire of suspicion against the CBI and need to be condemned by the Government in strong terms.
