This refers to the sad news of veteran Bollywood actor Nanda's demise. Nanda's parlance, rendition of dialogues and body language were similar to the legendary Meena Kumari's. She too earned a tragic-heroine image which she later broke with Jab Jab Phool Khile, a super-hit wherein she played a modern girl falling in love with a Kashmiri boatman played by Shashi Kapoor. The seductive number, Yeh samaa, samaa hai yeh pyaar ka, kisi ke intezaar ka, picturised on Nanda, still rings in the ears of the cine-goers.
Nanda’s chemistry with Shashi Kapoor, Manoj Kumar and Rajesh Khanna was marvellous. She played a depressed, differently-abled character, seated all the time in a wheel-chair in Aaj Aur Kal, while Sunil Dutt played the doctor who falls in love with her and miraculously cures her. A prominent number, Mujhe gale se lagalo, bahut udaas hoon main, from this film still lingers in the hearts of her fans.
