Sir — This refers to President Pranab Mukherjee’s book, The Dramatic Decade, in which he says that senior Congress leader SS Ray had advised Indira Gandhi to impose Emergency and that the then Prime Minister was not even aware of the provision in the Constitution to declare an Emergency. Almost all actors of Emergency are dead and the few around have said whatever they had to. There is no reason why the issue should be raked up now.
Playing up the matter now will only lead to ruckus in Parliament. The Congress and its supporters will back Indira Gandhi and the others will condemn it. This could then lead to adjournments and disruption in the conduct of business. Various legislations will be held up as a result and the people will be the end sufferers.
