PM's personal integrity didn't reflect in action

This refers to the report, “Jaitley praises PM, says he is a ‘syana aadmi'” (May 14). One can understand Mr Arun Jaitley's generosity in praising his political adversary, particularly at the time of the latter's retirement, as a “wise man”, a “scholar” and a man of “personal integrity”.

These are great qualities, but the question is: Did these get reflected in Mr Manmohan Singh’s conduct as head of the GovernmentIJ How is it that Mr Singh was widely seen as asubservient underling vis-à-vis his party and UPA supremoIJ Is it not a fact that under his watch, the Prime Minister's position suffered unprecedented diminutionIJ

Did Mr Manmohan Singh's recent remark that Mr Narendra Modi will be a disaster, reflect the wisdom that Mr Jaitley has credited the Prime Minister withIJ Similarly, has personal integrity any relevance or meaning if it allows corrupt colleagues to get away with the loot of public fundsIJ
