PM must appear before JPC; refurbish his image

Published on:

The chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on 2G Spectrum scam, PC Chacko, is reported to have described, BJP leader Yashwant Sinha's letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to appear before the JPC, as a ‘political stunt'.

One fails to understand how Mr Sinha's appeal to the Prime Minister to avail the opportunity to clear himself of the serious charges levelled by former Union Minister for Telecommunications A Raja, against him, is a ‘political stunt'. On the contrary, if the Prime Minister fails, on any pretext whatsoever, to prove his innocence in this whole sordid affair, it will erode his credibility further in the eyes of the people. The all too frequent comments and opinions appearing about Mr Singh in the Press, both Indian and foreign, in recent times, have not been very flattering. It is now up to the Prime Minister to use the golden opportunity coming his way to refurbish his severely dented image.
