This refers to the editorial, “The rise of violence” (September 1). The ‘Crime in India Report’ released by the National Crimes Record Bureau is alarming. It is true that no economy is growing as fast as India’s. However, it is also a bitter truth that the rate of crime in India has been growing with same ugliness and intensity and some of the most heinous crimes like rape and murder are shaming India.
Delay in delivery of justice and leniency in executing punishment due to inexorably unholy nexus between the police and powerful moneyed-class, coupled with falling social values and moral degradation have led to exponential rise of crimes. The sooner these and many such other gaps and loopholes are checked and remedial steps taken, the better it will be for our country.
