People's issues

Sir — Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi addressed political rallies in Patna and Delhi respectively on October 27. Unfortunately, both the leaders engaged in mudslinging instead of talking on the common man’s issues. None spoke about education, healthcare, employment, drinking water, city transport facility, or on issues that concern the disabled and the safety of women.

India is a mature democracy and politicians should understand that many voters of 2014 are not the voters of 2009. Gone are the days when voters were beguiled in the name of caste, creed and religion. Time has come for politicians to deliver. Under the circumstances, the political class has to be more responsive and vigilant and strive for democratic values and good governance.
