People's anger showed in Delhi Assembly results

Published on:

The Delhi poll verdict is something which the media has not analysed properly. The tragic ‘Nirbhaya' episode, which angered the youth in the capital, played its role in the outcome of the election, though this incident could have happened even if a party other than the Congress had been in power in the State. The electricity tariff hikes the Sheila Dikshit Government implemented also angered the people. But can these hikes be reversed to any great extent if a non-Congress regime takes overIJ It appears that the Aam Aadmi Party has misled the people here because the party cannot go about reversing every decision of the earlier regime, if and when the AAP comes to power.

Further, the people of the country, not just the Delhiites, are inclined to some extent to give an opportunity to Mr Arvind Kejriwal, the successful manager of Anna Hazare's lokpal campaign. The anti incumbency factor generally plays a role in any election. The media should try to separate the analysis of the Delhi result from that of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
