Sir — This refers to the article, “Working towards peace in our time” by (December 15) by RK Pachauri. The writer’s fervent appeal to India to offer to the world what this civilization always preached and practiced must be well taken by all sane elements in this country. The reality is that countries have always fought during the entire history for one reason or the other. This country, however, has never thrust a war on another country in its entire existence.
India always stands for peace. This peace, however, never compromised the righteousness. From the time of lord Rama and Mahabharata to the Kargil war, that has always been our stance. Even Gandhi said, “Fight if you must on the path of righteousness and God will be with you”. Whether we go out to the world with an olive branch or not, our actions precisely confirm that.
