This refers to the editorial, “As our jawans die ...”(August 8). The Pioneer deserves kudos for voicing the angst of the people over the killing of five of our brave soldiers in Poonch. But the bigger tragedy is our soft and ineffectual leadership which seems to ignore the gravity of the situation. The repeated violations at the loC, tantamount to deliberate cocking of snook at our country and its soft approach to terror.
Surely, it is the duty of the Government to act decisively against such acts in the interest of the nation and the safety of our jawans. The Government must flex its muscles and send across a stern message to Pakistan that such provocations will no longer be ignored and will be dealt with an iron fist. For starters, the Government must put on hold the proposed talks between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart, till the neighbouring country takes action against those responsible for the recent Poonch killings.
