Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Finally, a national role” (June 11).
The views expressed in the editorial in the backdrop of Mr lK Advani’s resignation (and subsequent withdrawal) appear incoherent. Mr Advani is not Mr BS Yeddyurappa. It is unfortunate that consensus could not be reached on a variety of issues that led to the crisis, and that the main Opposition party is clearly divided into two groups which has seriously damaged the NDA’s chances of winning the next election.
It would have been better if the name of the Election Campaign Committee chief had been decided openly in a democratic way first within the BJP and then in the NDA. Whosoever had won the race would have been given full support by all factions and constituents to defeat the corrupt UPA. Ignoring Mr Advani, who is one of the biggest pillars responsible for raising the strength of the BJP from two to bringing it to power, may prove costly not only for the party but to the nation as well. The rift in BJP will embolden the corrupt Congress to rule the country once again.
