Sir — This refers to the report, “Gujarat Congress MlAs in Karnataka under close watch” (July 30). The Congress had not made such effort for its presidential nominee as it is doing to ensure a Rajya Sabha victory for Ahmed Patel, senior Congress leader and Sonia Gandhi’s political advisor.
First, Ahmed Patel needs 47 MlA votes for his success. Now this seems unlikely, though still not impossible, with the downsliding number of MlAs of the party in Gujarat. some have left; others reportedly planning to quit. Second, Ahmed Patel has virtually taken away the Congress MlAs and put them in Bengaluru. Will these tactics be sufficient to make these MlAs vote in favour of the Congress and not abondone the ship at a time of their choosingIJ Only time will tell.
