Sir — Goa now has to brace for a periodsans Mr Manohar Parrikar, who strode the State’s political scenario in the two decade as a colossus.
Endowed with the ability to arrive at the root cause of any problem combined with an in-depth knowledge of the essentials of good administration, he was easily the man to reckon with in any dispensation, whether ruling or in the Opposition. He could hence be pardoned that streak of arrogance which went on to become a recognised trait that set him apart from his colleagues.
Especially in his tenure as the Chief Minister, he was clearly in his elements; his personal charisma alone ensuring the total electoral annihilation of the opposition parties in the State. However, it is difficult to subscribe to the view that the State Government would be ‘orphaned’ without Mr Parrikar. Over-dependence on any one individual should never be the essence of any organisation or Government. Maybe the new man can make a mark with his brand of governance.
