Sir — This refers to the article, “UPA regime on its way out, with a whimper” (March 3) by Gautam Mukherjee. Panic has set into the Congress.
The party is looking at the disturbing trends that show low approval ratings and vote shares for the party in the coming lok Sabha election. Seat projections are very conservative. Thus, the Government’s greatest non-performer, Union Minister for Defence AK Antony, is pleading with the left to join hands to prevent the ‘destruction’ that will come to the country if the BJP Government headed by Mr Narendra Modi assumes power.
On the one had we have teeming millions chanting Mr Modi’s name, and on the other we have this cabal running for cover. And, while Mr Antony is pleading with the left, his party president Sonia Gandhi is seeking shelter in the endorsement of Muslim clerics to somehow ensure that the minority votes do not get distributed among various parties, and come largely to the Congress.
