Pakistan's historic election

Published on:
Sir — This refers to the historic election in Pakistan, which saw a large voter turnout, despite threats of violence by rabid elements; the thumping victory of Pakistan Muslim league(N) and its leader Nawaz Sharif; and also the emergence of a credible Opposition in cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Mr Sharif is set to be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time. And going by the priorities in his election manifesto, he is aware of the challenges ahead of him that need to be dealt with promptly, if he wants to restore normalcy in that restive country. These problems range from the gnawing presence of Islamists, internal terrorism as witnessed during the election, a shattered economy, load-shedding and unemployment.
