Pakistan's double-speak on terrorism exposed

This refers to the editorial, “Pakistan’s hope grounded” (May 5). New Delhi had persistently warned Washington against the misuse of US military aid to Pakistan in the name of fighting terror, but Washington refused to see reason. Even state agencies in the US had found that the military aid was being used by Pakistan against India. India had also protested against the sale of F-16 fighter jets, along with radar and other equipment in a deal valued at $699 million that was approved by the US in February.

However, both Democrats and Republicans in the US Congress, who were unhappy with Islamabad’s policy of supporting militant groups and believed that the aircraft would not be used for fighting terrorists but India, forced the Obama Administration to drop its plan to finance the supply of aircraft to Pakistan from the Americans taxpayers’ money. Pakistan’s hypocrisy on terror and patronage of terrorist groups is now being realised by those who were its closest allies.
