Pakistan is not keen on dialogue with India

This refers to the report, “Will consult Kashmiri leaders before talks with India: Sharif” (November 21).

Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's latest statement, underlining his insistence on having prior consultations with Kashmiri separatists before resuming peace parleys with the Union Government, despite the Centre's clear opposition to this stand, makes it abundantly clear that Pakistan is not really interested in a dialogue. As long as Kashmir remains Pakistan's single-minded fixation, bilateral talks can go nowhere. Pakistanis can keep push their propaganda till the cows come home, but they will not achieve any breakthrough.

Pakistan can keep calling for international intervention, but no global leader worth his or her salt will heed Pakistan's call. It is time Mr Sharif saw the writing on the wall. He has expressed concern over the silence of the United Nations and the international community on Kashmir. Will it not be foolhardy to keep on singing the same tuneIJ
