This refers to the article, “Know Nawaz Sharif for what he really is” (October 11) by G Parthasarathy.
A leopard doesn't change its spots. Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif continues to deny his country’s involvement in the recent attacks along the Jammu & Kashmir border that took the Indian Army two weeks to repel. While the media claims that Pakistan is in denial, in reality, the Government of India and the Congress are in denial. From Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi, they all refuse to declare Pakistan a terrorist state. Had New Delhi and the party leadership shown courage, India would have found support from other countries too. But the Congress is promoting a different line abroad: That the country is threatened by ‘Hindutva terror' more than by militants backed by Pakistan.
As far as back-channel diplomacy is concerned, representatives of India almost reflexively turn into apologists for Pakistan. And that includes certain sections of the media.
