Outdated code

Published on:

Sir — I was shocked to know that a judge and two advocates were denied entry into Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s club because they were in dhotis. It is amazing that the club is still following the British legacy in implementing the dress code.

Even after 67 years of self-rule, it is distressing that the British-era dress code of wearing trousers and tie is still prevalent. It is a matter of shame and an assault on the people. Moreover, dhoti is the traditional dress of the people of south India.

Mahatma Gandhi wore his half-dhoti when he participated in the second Round Table Conference held in london in 1931, when India was under the British rule.  So, the irrelevant rules being followed by the TNCA and Gymkhana clubs needs to be re-visited or scrapped at the earliest.
