Sir — This refers to the article, “Reign of Terror and the rights activists’ role” (September 22) by Joginder Singh. India has a very powerful lobby of opinion-makers who are staunch supporters of terrorism in any form, so long as it hurts India to the maximum. Eager volunteers are thronging the gates of humanitarians who seem to restrict their benign vision to a few who have to be violent in an outrageous manner against the ordinary people of India, struggling to eke out a decent living. George Orwell had said that every humanitarian is a humbug. Some people demonstrate a stoic indifference to the bombings, killings etc, so long as the catchwords are right.
