Sir — This refers to the article, “Not preferable, but at times unavoidable”(February 3) by A Surya Prakash. The article is well-researched and elucidates the ordinances the BJP-led Government has issued, as well as the uncalled for criticism by the Congress, which itself is responsible for this state of affairs. An ordinance can validly be issued under Article 123(1) of the Constitution under certain conditions — which were fulfilled by the Government. Also, the validity of ordinances has been upheld by the Supreme Court in past cases.
It must be remembered that the Opposition’s disruption on account of its majority in the Rajya Sabha, was the principal reason why the Narendra Modi Government brought in the ordinances.
