This refers to the article, “The truth. Some in black, others white” (October 21) by Rajesh Singh. It is true, as the writer has pointed out, that the Shiv Sena wants to dominate its senior ally and does whatever it can to antagonise the latter.
It is also true that only the shoe-wearer best knows where the shoe pinches. The million-dollar question is: What was the urgency to hold Pakistan-related programmes in Mumbai, which has borne the brunt of Pakistan-linked terror attacks right from 1993IJ These programmes could have been organised elsewhere in the country.
Pakistan has shown no remorse over the attacks in Mumbai whether of 1993 or 2006 or 2008. It has not moved to either hand over the culprits or try them in its courts with any seriousness of purpose. In fact, the accused have flourished under state patronage. In this situation, there is no reason why we should be so accommodative to Pakistani writers or singers on Indian soil, or to save Pakistan’s cricket board from financial troubles.
Then comes the Engineer Rashid case. The MlA simply does not deserve any sympathy from any quarter. The writer has correctly said that the beef party this Kashmiri legislator (also pro-separatist) had organised, was a direct and blatant provocation. It led to his being manhandled in the Assembly and his face blackened in New Delhi.
