Sir — This refers to the report, “I sold tea, not nation: PM Modi” (November 28). The comment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that is laudable. Selling tea in the past for his livelihood and that of his family is no shame or disgrace. There were some prominent people in the world who were born in abject poverty and misery but achieved greatness for themselves and their country.
Some Prime Ministers from the Nehru Gandhi family lost our territory to our enemies such as Pakistan and China in wars with these countries. India even abandoned her claim over Katchatheevu Island and awarded it to Sri lanka in 1974-76 during the premiership of Indira Gandhi oblivious to our national interest.
