Sir — This refers to the article, “This isn’t the occasion to play petty politics” (June 28) by Kalyani Shankar. The writer is trying to balance out Mr Rahul Gandhi and Mr Narendra Modi, no matter how bad and inefficient both the Congress and its vice president have been.
Mr Modi visited Uttarakhand in his capacity as the Chief Minister of Gujarat whose people were stranded in the flood-ravaged State. He considers it his responsibility to protect and help his people during such disasters. He has offered to rebuild the Kedarnath shrine, because Gujarat has the expertise in rebuilding disaster areas. Had he offered help for a mosque or a church, he would have been accused of trying to win minority votes. True, Mr Modi is ruthless, not just as a politician, but also as a leader who leads by example. That’s why the people like him.
