Obsessed with US

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Not in nation’s interest” (September 21). There are reports that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to the US for a United Nations’ meet, where he will interact with American President Barack Obama, is the result of one year of diplomatic work.

Mr Obama reportedly hesitated initially, knowing well that the Congress-led UPA is a lame-duck regime and it’s futile to hold any talk, leave alone conclude bilateral deals. 

Nevertheless, the US still appears to have arm-twisted the Manmohan Singh Government to dilute the effect of the Civil liability for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010, passed in Parliament. Every one is at loss to understand why the Manmohan Singh regime is so obsessed with pleasing the United States.
