Obnoxious leader

Published on:

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Don’t tarnish the Army” (April 10). Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan’s preposterous assertion that the Kargil War was won by Muslim soldiers smacks of the communal politics that he and his party stand for.

Mr Khan derives much pleasure from insulting others. His venomous campaign against those like Ms Jayaprada and Mr Amar Singh is well documented. Mr Khan’s obnoxious statements have been a source of embarrassment to his party, Uttar Pradesh and the country. His ideology is antithetical to the very idea of India. His comments on Kargil are an insult to those who laid down their lives for their motherland.

Because the Samajwadi Party has nothing to boast of ever since it regained power in the State, its leaders are resorting to diversionary tactics to deflect the attention of the people over issues that concern them intimately. The State regime, of which Mr Khan is an integral part, has committed so many grave mistakes that keeping track of them is a Herculean task.
