Sir — This refers to the article, “Straining the spirit of justice” (March 15) by Anuradha Dutt. At last, someone has articulated the views of a large section of people who have expressed anger over the injustice to other victims of sex-related crimes, including children, and are annoyed by the media hype created around one case.
Even during the agitation, every day two or three cases of rape and assault were reported, but the agitators did not bother to even mention them in their sloganeering. Public outcry and agitation is good, but when mob mentality is at work, it is the job of the media to keep a balance rather than fan hysteria. The Government too becomes the victim of this hype and starts working in tandem with mob mentality.
Following December 16 gang rape accused Ram Singh’s purported suicide, people have voiced suspicion over the incident. One wonders if the police has now targeted some innocent persons as culprits under pressure to act fast.
