Not just condemn, but also uproot terrorism

This refers to the editorial, “Terror re-visits Europe” (March 24). The terror attack in Brussels on Tuesday was shocking and must be condemned. Many watched the scenes of the carnage on television in total disbelief. The terror attacks in Paris and Brussels have only confirmed what was already thought to be a serious challenge for Europe. Its citizens are travelling to Syria, to become a part of the Islamic State and are returning home, becoming more dangerous and radicalised than ever.

India's neighbour, Pakistan, with porous borders, is a known militant hotbed and has seen several of its citizens travel to Syria to join the IS. Many have even returned, more radicalised. Belgium won't be the same ever again. All it takes to plunge a city, big or small, into chaos, is a few brainwashed terrorists. The threats to European cities won't just go away with the arrest of individual terrorists. The scourge of terror must be eliminated root and branch. Of course, it is easier said than done.
