Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Short on substance” (May 22).
It rightly points out that the talks between the Indian Prime Minister and the Chinese Premier were far from ‘business’ and were definitely short on substance, as the Indian side failed to thrash out the crucial issue of the recent Chinese intrusion into our territory in ladakh.
More than the other agreements, we failed to obtain a categorical commitment and assurance from the Chinese side that they will not repeat such assaults on our territorial integrity. The two sides merely downplayed the burning issue, which is to be condemned.
