Sir — What makes Mr Narendra Modi so controversial is the fact that the Gujarat violence of 2002 took place under his rule. Mr Modi has since managed to cultivate an image of himself as an able administrator, but he is still struggling to shake off the taint of 2002.
Ironically, nobody talks of the 1984 Sikh massacre or the Kashmiri Pandits’ plight in Jammu & Kashmir. Mr Nitish Kumar should realise that Mr Modi is not any more communal than the Congress, the Samajwadi Party and the RJD — parties that openly appease the minorities for votes in secular India.
