Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Deal with iron hand” (August 26). Despite a surge in sex-related crimes, the administration, the police and society in general have been unable to tackle the menace. After the horrific Delhi gang rape case, and the public outrage which followed, many of us hoped that a drastic change would be seen both on the social and the administrative level. But to our dismay, incidents of rape continue unabated.
This only means that there is simply no fear of the law and there are lacunae in its strict implementation which need to be expeditiously addressed. Also, there is the issue of so-called juvenile offenders and their age, a matter which offenders are sure to exploit as two of the Mumbai rape accused are now doing. Nothing but the fear of the law can halt the rapists in their tracks.
