This refers to the report, “How can mere kaamdhaar make eye contact with naamdaarIJ” (July 21). The TDP-sponsored non-confidence motion against the Modi Government proved to be an exercise in futility. It was a foregone conclusion that the motion was going to be defeated. On the one hand, Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi had said that they would topple the NDA Government and on other, she admitted that the numbers were not on the side of the Opposition.
Critics of the Government had thought that they had a field day to pin down the Government on issues like cow vigilantism, ghar wapsi, lynchings, economic offences, tardy job growth, refusal to reduce excise duties and other levies on petrol and diesel, rising consumer price index, slow growth of exports among others. There was absolutely no need for a a no-confidence motion to discuss these issues. Parliamentary sessions are meant for discussion of all nagging problems surrounding the people.
Each of the points raised by Congress president Rahul Gandhi during the motion was rebutted by Prime Minister Modi. When the Prime Minister was speaking, others were trying to drown his voice with their slogans like “we want justice, we want justice”. This shows that the sloganeers were intolerant in listening to the view points of the Prime Minister.
