Nitish's error

Sir — This refers to the article, “Driven by desire to be PM; faking disinterest” (March 12) by Rajesh Singh. There is no harm in a politician nurturing a desire to become the country’s Prime Minister. But that hope must be rooted in ground realities. It is an open secret that when Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar realised that Mr Narendra Modi would be the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate, he broke away from the party-led National Democratic Alliance in protest.

Now, when many parties are joining, or showing a willingness to be part of, the NDA, it is clear that Mr Modi’s leadership has been accepted. Mr Nitish Kumar should not have let his ego come in the way of the larger good of the NDA and the country.

Now, he will surely lose ground in Bihar; moreover, his ambition has taken a further dent as the so-called Third Front has all but evaporated faster than it was created.
