Nitish Kumar's task cut out; he must perform

Published on:

This refers to the editorial, “Must stay the course” (November 21). Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has his task cut out. Though his previous record as Chief Minister speaks for itself, he is back to square one. He has to contend with the marauding influence of RJD chief lalu Prasad, who has already shown his true colours by persuading him to include both his sons in the Cabinet. Mr Nitish Kumar should tread cautiously, yet firmly, on fulfilling his pre-poll promises. Poor performance may undo the goodwill he has earned so far.

Delivering a clean, transparent, efficient and development-oriented Government must consistently be at the back of his mind. The time is ripe to implement the seven-point agenda for Bihar. Mr Nitish Kumar has to also maintain a fine balance between industrialisation and agriculture, so that Bihar does not lag behind in attracting big-time investors. He should put the acrimonious campaign behind him, and have frequent interactions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, so as to ensure a good deal from the Centre.
